I want my students to have interesting and relevant articles on current events to supplement the curriculum and the books we read. Learning how to read and interrogate news is an integral skill that I want my students to master before entering high school. Scholastic News Magazines will provide 24 different issues of current events to use in small groups, debates, and opinion writing. I have used Scholastic News before with students and have found it a meaningful way to work on reading comprehension and close reading. Having access to current and leveled news articles is the foundation of many rewarding projects I have planned for my students.
