Scientists need materials in order to discover, explore, and experiment. These materials will allow my class to get hands on experience with creating and confirming a scientific hypothesis, complete a scientific writing assignment on it, and experience the entire scientific process. I will be using the materials to serve 60 students total. I plan on incorporating graphing, writing, and reading into the lesson as an extension. The students I work with do not frequently come into contact with wildlife and are very interested in various animals and their habitats. These materials will bring this particular species to life and allow the students to have a sort of virtual field trip. The kit I'm requesting includes posters and charts that the students will be able to use to identify the species of rodent the owl consumed. The pellets themselves are for hands-on dissection that will not only motivate the students, but will allow them to truly experience the scientific process in a way that is concrete.
