I teach special education-resource math. Often these students enter the classroom with a lowered confidence in their learning abilities and a need encouragement to take ownership of their learning. My summer reading addressed the "living room effect", which increases student participation and creates a positive learning environment. Each of my students (10) will receive their own learning spaces. These spaces will include their own storage device to promote organization, a desk divider to give them privacy and a chance to add their own personal touch to their learning environment, chair pillows to add living room style comfort, and lighting that creates a relaxing productive mood. My goal is to create a joyful, beautiful place for my students to learn.
