The graphic novels I have selected: Dracula, Frankenstein, and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are staples of the Gothic period in British Literature. “Comic format is ideal for youth and any forum where you want to seed the conversation with specific topics but allow the audience to participate by filling the blanks with their own experience/ opinion/ solutions.” -Jim Reid Graphic novels add a visual literacy element to these texts which will keep my students engaged through an often difficult period in the literary cannon. More importantly, an inquiry into how images and choices like color can improve students’ development of 21st century skills of analysis and multi-genre literacy.
