As a reading teacher, I know that my most important job is to create a lifelong love of reading within the walls of my classroom for each of my students. I want my classroom to clearly reflect the message that this is a room where readers come to learn, grow, and develop a love for reading. I want my students to find reading enjoyable, and most people who read for pleasure, do not choose to do so in a hard plastic desk. I want to offer my readers a variety of flexible seating choices to create a more natural reading environment. This gives students something to look forward to when it is reading time, as well as allowing them to model and practice what real readers do. I am hoping this project will create excitement for my students during independent reading, but also allow for them to really practice what all good readers do. The items I have chosen to help accomplish my goal are 4 Big Joe bean bag chairs, a large comfy area rug, 6 KinderCushions for sitting, and 5 padded stools to be used both for flexible seating, independent reading and guided reading time.
