Flexible seating allows students to be in charge of where to sit and when they need a wiggle break. These requested flexible seating materials would allow my students the option to sit on the floor or choose a stool, rather than sit on a hard chair at the table. My students sit all day in the classroom. I want them to be able to move around and choose where they sit when they come to speech therapy.
My students become more engaged when they are given a choice, therefore more work is done and more progress is made toward their speech and language goals. I work with many students with Autism and other disorders. It is unfair of me to ask many of my students to sit at the table throughout our entire session, especially when they have been sitting all day! Instead, with flexible seating, I can allow my therapy session to move and follow the student's lead. This leads to more progress on their goals, too!
The speech room is a bright, colorful, fun place and the stools and rug tie in perfectly! I would love to welcome the new materials into my room and see how much of an impact they can make on my student's learning and development.
