I teach kindergarten at a charter school located in ward 8 in the District of Columbia. Many of the students who attend my school do not have the home support necessary to reach their full potential at the end of each school year. In order to help minimize the achievement gap of our students, my school purchased a reading program called lexiacore5 and a math program called ixl. To take full advantage of these programs it is necessary for each child to hear what is being said, this becomes difficult without headphones. Some families provided headphones for their child but most did not. Without headphones, my students lose focus and become frustrated because they cannot hear. I want my students to have every advantage necessary for them to be successful.
