My students come from a very small agricultural community without much access to art. I teach at a fairly new charter school in which most middle school students take art. Many are English learners and often feel discouraged with their schooling and enjoy the release they get from being transported to another world with art. With that said, many of my students don't have exposure to art outside of school, nor do they have an appreciation for the various types of art.
