We are starting a High School Autism Classroom. We need to restructure and need individualized work stations for the students. We would use a standing/sitting L shape desk for one-to-one teacher instruction. It would be used to organize materials the teacher will use for data collection. The three book shelves will be used for workbox task centers; the shelves will hold the workboxes for three different levels. The students love computer break time and it would be great to have separated computer desks. These items will benefit our students that have aggressive behaviors and give each individualized space to focus on a different set of skills. This year, we will begin focusing on individualized academics and daily living skills activities. It is crucial for our students to not only have learning areas for academics, but also for the students to have an area set up similar to a studio apartment. The portable closet will help the students learn how to organize clothes from the laundry. Our classroom has come a very long way the last couple of years, but now it is more important than ever to get furniture and materials to help with the older students' needs. Hopefully the things we work on will help them have more joy out of life by being more independent and productive.
