With smart phones, television, and gaming consoles dominating daily life, it is not surprising to learn that school doesn't quite capture students' attention the way it used to. In classrooms today, it is imperative that teachers find new and innovative ways to engage students in their learning. Any time my students have the opportunity to get their hands on a piece of technology, they are immediately hooked. They are consumed with the ability to create and collaborate both within, and outside of the classroom. However, being in a Title I school, this technology is not always readily available. Most students do not have computers at home. Unfortunately, this means most students do not have the necessary 21st Century skills required in today's society. If there was ever a group of students who would benefit from new and engaging technology, it would be my wonderful fifth grade students!
