All teachers provide career and real world oriented courses three times a week. I choose to share my love of sewing with the students. It is a skill that will help them in their personal lives and could be utilized in a professional manner. With the removal of sewing classes from the middle school it created a loss of important life skills. Our biggest draw back at this point in time is the outdated sewing machines that date back to the 1980's. Many of the sewing machines that are still in the building do not work.
We have created many great projects and I would like to broaden our impact to include service learning projects where we are able to donate what we sew to those in need. We made aprons, ornaments, pincushions, and drawstring book bags last school year. This year I would like to make gifts for the nursing home that include walker and wheel chair bags. I would like to join together with the local children's home to provide them with student created toys. I would like to re-do all the curtains at the local 4-H camp that is utilized by the school system, as well. There are also numerous sewing projects to be done to better our school.
