As educators, we are competing with video games, online platforms, social media, YouTube, etc. We need to hook students and hold their focus. Make learning engaging. Technology is one piece of the literacy puzzle. Students will use Osmo via the iPad to practice word work skills (i.e. cvc words, magic "E", sight words, etc). They'll also use the "pencil" to write on the iPads. The wonderful thing about Osmo is they'll each create an avatar. They can work independently on it or with a teacher. Plus, there's math programs too in case they need to maintain those skills. Check out https://www.playosmo.com/en/
