In our school, reading is a passion for most of our students, and children have been asking me for pictures and books about the topics in my classroom. Because there has been such a demand, I have decided to not only create a P.E. library that students can check out books in, but am also creating lesson plans that incorporate reading from picture books in my curriculum. Books with illustrations are critical for my 160 English Language Learners and 70 Exceptional Student Education students, whereas the whiteboards, clipboards, and markers allow me to complete a class set for 80 students at once. This allows me to monitor student understanding and make reading an interactive activity to bring rigor into my health and fitness classroom.
