This year in Math, I plan to implement a "Bring Your Own Device" (BYOD) policy into my classroom to coincide with the curriculum. BYOD means that each student would get to bring their own device (Cell phone, iPod touch, iPad/Tablet) that can connect to the Wi-Fi, into my classroom and use their device for curricular purposes. I want to remove the negative stigma of having phones in class, and allowing them to use their phones/devices to aide the learning process. One of the main uses of the devices will be for formative assessments. I will be able to ass students level of understanding with quick multiply choice quizzes as a "Ticket Out The Door" or even just a quiz, more efficiently using their devices and certain web tools and apps. This will allow me to adjust my instruction immediately so that all students understand the material. I also plan on having my students creat paper slide videos to post on our class website for them to use to review, and to aide in the learning process. The problem with BYOD is, at a title 1 school (low income), not every student has access to a device. In order to bypass that problem, I will need to have multiple devices on hand for students who cannot bring one to school. The 10 iPod touches will allow for me to implement BYOD in my classroom. I will also be purchasing either Lifeproof or Otterbox cases to keep them safe (be on the lookout for that next project :) ), so that the devices do not break if they are dropped by accident.
