Students will use the Engineering Design Loop to design a cost-effective building or tower that will survive an earthquake. The use of the models will give students concrete knowledge of how buildings are affected by the shaking of the Earth. Their challenge is to build a 4+ story building or tower that is capable of surviving an earthquake along a major fault line. The municipality is currently accepting bids for structural design proposals for a new building or tower that must be able to withstand extreme tectonic activity. You will work in engineering squads to complete your design proposal and prototype, which will be tested by a mock earthquake on the earthquake table. The building material for the towers will be the craft sticks and the hot glue. I have also requested the glue guns to complete the build. The last request was the shake rattle and roll table to test the completed towers.
