Funding a robotics team in an ever-changing technological world is expensive. Our students need access to up-to-date computers, machinery, and tools to gain experience with tools used in the modern day workplace. Our team funding comes solely from grants, fundraisers, and donations. We are requesting a new programming laptop to improve the development experience of students programming the robot. In the competition, teams must program a robot not only for the tele-operated period where drivers control the robot, but also for an autonomous period where the robot is pre-programmed to execute a task. Leveraging sensors, the subsystems are modeled and controlled in the code and can be combined with computer vision to aid in consistent and reliable autonomous modes. The laptop our students are currently using is a refurbished laptop that is over 5 years old. Its battery life and reliability have declined and it is a challenge for students to use, both in the shop and at competitions. The MacBook Pro and adapter will provide a Unix environment required by some software libraries and the capability for our students to develop iOS apps.
