"Funny in Farsi" is a novel so different than anything my students have been exposed to in our curriculum. One extremely important part of being global learners is reading and learning about different voices and, unfortunately, my students often do not have access to the diversity of perspectives necessary to really engage with being "global learners." While technology helps tremendously, reading a nonfiction text that relates lived experience helps not only widen their perspectives, but adds a layer of humanity to their educational experience. Lastly, reading a novel that is steeped in heart and humor will really help my students learn that there is a bright side to every story.
