These materials will help engage my students, making learning time easier and more fluid. Often times, talking about feelings can be awkward, but if the student is engaged and relaxed, whether through playing with a stuffed animal, drawing, making a shape with play doh, or coloring, the time becomes more meaningful, helping the adult mentor build relationships. Folders, pencil, and erasers may not seem like much, but to a child who doesn't have these things, these items mean so much. We tend to take things like markers and glue for granted; you'd be surprised what fun these things can be in the learning setting.
