I teach 7th grade English language arts. I have a student-centered classroom with a competency-based curriculum where students read, write, and think based on their own interests and abilities. I do not have traditional tests in my room, but capstone projects in which students demonstrate their understandings through original and creative work. This often involves collaboration, creativity, some cacophony, and a bit of chaos, as real learning tends to do. This is an on-going process, and as such, I am seeking funds for flexible seating in my classroom. I have personally invested thousands on my own in lighting and couches, but my students really need tables where they can collaborate and get messy in their process.
