Our class has 11 students with diverse academic, social, and sensory needs. To meet these needs, we need better accommodations to meet the sensory needs of all students. We work very hard throughout the day, and when pushed so hard academically that can cause significant frustration. Having a sensory friendly classroom will allow students a quiet, calm space to work in, and they will have a quiet, safe space to go when they need time and space to themselves to regulate their body. When they are in the quiet area they will be able to calm down and reset their body and brain to be able to get back to the difficult work we are doing. With the light covers, it will reduce the harsh light from the fluorescent lighting in our room. This will help our class be able to work for longer periods of time without needing regulation. When we are starting to get overwhelmed and overstimulated, the tent will allow a safe, quiet space to regulate our bodies and minds, and the CD player will allow soothing music to be played next to the tent so that it is easier to calm down and get ready to start back to work.
