It is important that my special education students are engaged in a developmentally appropriate learning environment where they can reach their full potential. By giving students with a variety of seating options, children are more capable of staying focused, engaging in developmentally appropriate learning activities, and completing tasks. Providing students with the opportunity to choose a seat that works best for them will create an environment where students feel motivated and excited to learn. When students are allowed to choose a seat where they can do their best work, it reinforces skills in problem solving, teaches self-regulation, establishes ownership in learning, encourages independence, and increases success. All of these things are such an important part of an early learning environment!
