Ever walk into a classroom and just feel good? I certainly have. On a few recent school visits, I saw flexible seating arrangements which included: standing desks, video rockers, large pillows, café style stools, and bucket chairs. The space made me feel comfortable, safe and relaxed. I immediately said to myself, "This is exactly how I want my students to feel when they are learning in our classroom!" In addition to creating a nurturing environment, changing the classroom space to meet my students’ individual needs will impact how they learn, how they interact, and their entire classroom experience. Our flexible classroom will give students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them, and help them to communicate and engage in critical thinking. Breaking up rows of desks will foster collaboration and empower my students to think about how they work best. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The wobble stools allow for some movement while seated. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. The comfy stability balls and the plastic stools will allow for additional comfortable seating options. The lap desks will be useful for students that prefer to sit on the floor or in a traditional chair to work. The stand-up desk will assist the students who prefer not to sit while working. The products I chose are all lightweight and can be easily moved to many areas of the classroom.
