Reading is a powerful act, and reading novels should not be limited to English classrooms. In the World Language classroom, reading is a powerful means to acquire a new language (in the case of my students, French). Reading class novels throughout the school year has a tremendous impact on students' language growth, and studies show that reading in one's second language also improves reading abilities in one's first language. My goal is to build a classroom library of French novels that are designed for beginners, but have engaging storylines for an adolescent audience. The library will be invaluable for activities like independent reading and book talks. It is my hope that the library will support students both in French class and across subject areas.
