Coding and Engineering is the future for our students, even students as young as Kindergarten. As an educator, I want to give my students the best instruction to make them successful in our 21st century world. Students often don't get the opportunity to learn coding and engineering in the primary grades, and that is what I am hoping to bring to each of my students. I plan on using the Bee-Bot Robots to enhance my core reading and math instruction. These will be integrated into whole group, small group and individual settings within the classroom. Students will get to practice coding by finding letters on a mat to spell CVC words, the letters in their name, or identify pictures using beginning sounds. Students will also get to learn number sense, problem solving, and addition and subtraction through the world of coding, as well as critical thinking skills that will apply to all concept areas. The students will also get to apply engineering skills through the use of Take-a-Part Toys and Construction Toys. They will once again get to build their problem solving strategies to put together a machine, a car, or even a dinosaur. The options are endless, and so our my students' futures!!!
