An eSports program is the latest trend in education and is a billion-dollar industry. As we start to develop this program, we need to start to collate resources. We are looking at getting into esports at the very cheapest possible with a Nintendo Switch and controllers. We need to embrace eSports in education. eSports brings students out of their bedrooms and into after-school clubs and sports, educators say, to focus learning on how to collaborate, how to communicate, how to value and respect their team members. This is specifically important to these students that otherwise may not have the opportunity to be a part of a team due to many factors. Esports is a fast-growing online gaming sport being recognized by CIF at the high school level and by the NCAA at the collegiate level. Esports, online gaming, is a way to reach an overlooked student population, giving them the opportunity to contribute to the school ecosystem while fostering a passion for school in these students. Unfortunately, eSports receive no funding and students can only participate if their parents are able to afford luxury items such as game consoles. I want to provide the necessary equipment for students to participate in esports, whether they can afford it. eSports gives my students one more positive reason to enjoy coming to school and it gives them something they can excel at, even if they don't play traditional sports.
