The majority of my students live in a low-income area that surrounds a middle class neighborhood in California. We have one of the most diverse student populations economically, ethnically, racially and linguistically. My students are energetic, creative and eager-to-learn 7th graders. Many come from homes filled with anxiety over loss of job, illness, hunger, and fear. Many are required to deal with these problems along with their learning disabilities. I have a large number of English Language Learners. Drastic budget cuts have limited what I am able to do for them on my own, as well as what the school is able to provide. Regardless of these limitations, my students are excited to learn and want to be successful.
