My students are all levels of learners, from students with very basic writing skills and special needs to AP level students. Our school is currently 10th from the bottom in spending per pupil in our state, so technology that is brought into the classroom is on a BYOD (bring your own device) policy. There are on average, about five students per class that don't own a device, so to include them in lessons, they must share with each other. Our building has wi-fi to support iPads, and I've spent a great deal of time creating lesson plans based around digital technology in the classroom. To encourage students to participate, I hand out my own two personal iPads that I've purchased, so that they may not feel left out. Our school is in a middle class suburb of Boston, but we do have a number of students in our CP level (which I teach) living below the poverty line. Getting students at the CP level engaged is our #1 priority, and as I teach 10th graders, success on MCAS is also a top priority.
