As a first year teacher in a rural community, I will be working in a classroom with very little technology. As things stand right now, the only technology in our classroom is a smart board and one desk top computer to project onto the smart board. These 5 Chromebooks will be used daily by 36 third grade students to enhance their skills in math and science. Our school has access to amazing online math and science learning sites, but currently all 8 third grade classes share access to one class set of Chromebooks. Therefore, my students don't have the opportunity to use technology on a daily basis. If I had 5 Chromebooks to keep in my classroom, my students would be able to utilize technology-based curriculum each day during small group rotations along with their other paper-based lessons. Small group stations are imperative to the success of students. I would love to be able to add a technology station for students to use during math station rotations, but right now that is impossible. If we had a small group set of Chromebooks in my third grade math and science classes, students could access fun math games, math fact practice, and virtual science experiments and field trips during small group instruction. I have seen first hand in 1 to 1 classrooms how beneficial Chromebooks are to the students. The technology-based lessons not only teach new concepts and reinforce standards, but it also allows students to have fun while learning! This project will be the first step to making my classroom 1 to 1 with technology. Chromebooks are essential for students to stay current and competitive with learning in today's technology driven world. Thank you for contributing to my classroom and investing in my students' future!
