My students are an incredible group of ELL middle-school students who are in need of support during this challenging transition. These students are sweet, dynamic and individuals full of personality. As they struggle through the challenges of being in middle school, they are also adapting to life in a new country, with new cultures and expectations. My interactions with them offer an opportunity for validation to attain the confidence needed to continue to grow into the young people that they are capable of becoming. In the short time since I've been working with them, I've been able to get to know a wonderful group of adolescents who are capable of so much, if they just believed in themselves a little more. While language can be a barrier, there are so many other factors that impact their daily experiences. What I appreciate the most about them is their willingness to engage and work towards their excellence.
