My students have grown to treasure their writing time over the past few months of school. They fill their writing notebooks with the cutest, quirkiest, most creative pieces. I know having a place to “publish” their pieces would motivate my little authors to write even more. They will use their draw and write journals to publish a variety of writings from short stories to fables to poetry. Best of all, students will get to take their journals home at the end of the year to continue developing their new-found joy of writing. The class set of Pippi Longstalkings will be used during our DEAR (drop everything and read) time. Each student having their own copy of the book will allow students to follow along as I read plus Introduce students to a strong female main character.
