Having a subscription for each student to Time Magazine for Kids will help my second graders learn more about the world around them. Nonfiction reading is often the least favorite choice of my students. It is difficult for students to find nonfiction resources that relate to their interests at their reading level. Time for Kids Second Grade edition is just what they need. It is a nonfiction resource with loads of exciting articles at a level most students can read. I plan to use these magazines in variety of settings; whole group, small group, and individually.
It opens their minds to the world outside of the classroom and their neighborhood.
Along with this helpful nonfiction resource I am looking to provide the students with alternative seating choices to be comfortable while expanding their minds. The rug chosen for my classroom will be placed by my classroom library as a seating choice and the bean bag chairs allow for movement throughout the room. It is difficult and uncomfortable for 2nd graders to sit it hard chairs all day through their lessons. The bean bag chairs and rug allow them to learn in a way that is comfortable to them. Would you want to be uncomfortable while expanding your mind?
