I’d like to change the mindset from sports to physical fitness. In order to focus on fitness, we need something that can accurately measure their efforts. Heart rate is one way to measure the intensify of any workout. By tracking this information overtime, students will be able to see the positive impacts fitness makes on the inside of their body. Using real time data, we would stop and do a heart rate check and see if we are working in our target zone; if not we can adapt in the moment to get the most out of the PE activity. It could also provide an objective way to evaluate student performance. The most athletic are not necessarily improving and best effort. Meanwhile, some students look like they might not be given their best effort, but if could measure their heart rate, you would find that they are giving more effort. Information based off of the book Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain.
