The books selected are books that address issues students from the district have encountered in and outside of the school. Themes include acceptance based on looks and religion, perseverance in divorce, immigration, and friendship. These books will give my students more options to read books that interest them while also allowing them to make real world connections. The generous donations to my class will provide students with increased options for literature circles and promote a positive reading environment. Most of my students do not have access to a library or appropriate literature at home. The only meaningful reading they is done in the classroom. Providing students with a comfortable place to read (yoga mats, pillows, etc.) makes the experience of reading much more positive than sitting at a desk for long periods of time. This will help foster the positive learning and reading environment for my students.
