These materials will be used on the basis of a reward system. When students go home and completed assignments and work their way towards exiting the program my goal is to have really nice rewards for their hard work and to motivate their peers who are in the program to do their best and strive to exit the program as well.
My students have a difficult time being motivated to do homework and at home reading, so I do my best to make sure that I provide a piece of motivation such as candy or chips just to give them an extra push. I currently use stickers as my reward system, but I want to push it a bit further just to build upon the motivation to read and write.
I also realize that my students are not fond of writing, so I try to have different colored pens, pencils, and paper when we come into the intervention sessions in order to peak their interest and make them want to write. Students are more receptive to writing when they are allowed to do it in color. I requested Ziploc bags for my students that forget or loose their take home bags with their books inside. Understanding that they are second and first graders, I want to be prepared for students that may forget their book bags.
