I teach in an inner city school district where 100% of the kids receive free meals at school. Many of them have extremely difficult home lives and sometimes the only bright spot in their day is coming to school where they feel safe and cared for. Being able to show the kids I care enough about them to arrange for them to have choice and comfort in their seats will go a long way to making this a successful school year for them. Another teacher in my building implemented flexible seating in her classroom last year and it made a world of difference with her kids! They were actually excited to be in that room! Not only did the seats help them to focus better but they behaved better as well!
