Students with autism have overwhelming sensitivities and preferences within their environment. The environment could be too loud, unpredictable, have too many people or just be uncomfortable for a child with autism. By offering flexible seating, a student will be able to locate the designated calm down area in the classroom as well as several different chair options. By creating a flexible seating classroom students will be able to exhibit appropriate stimulation while learning. These children will be able to walk into the classroom and decide for themselves what works best for them. Overall, I would like to create an atmosphere where my students feel comfortable enough to express who they truly are while learning.
