I would love to do a detailed book study of Flowers for Algernon. Some students are convinced their lives would be better "If..." and Charlie Gordon is a wonderful example of that happening at the expense of everything you love. Flowers for Algernon will go a long way in helping to developing empathy in my students. Watching Charlie go from a joke to an icon and back may help them to see the potential harm in laughing at someone's expense, to see that there are still struggles when you get everything you think you want, and to be kind through the journey they are about to embark on following graduation.

About my class
