As a first year teacher, it is my goal to build a strong library of numerous book series that will reach a variety of students' interests and reading levels alike. In my classroom, we talk so much about finding "just right" books that suit each individual child to springboard their reading ability. These book series will be utilized in my 5th grade classroom to provide students with a plethora of choices to suit their interests and reading levels. Many of these current titles have been checked out of my school's library, but sadly, there are not enough titles to go around to meet the demand of the students in my room. The books I have chosen are so popular, they fly off the shelves before my reluctant readers have a chance at them. I want to provide students who are waiting to read them with a chance to dive in, slowly growing them into better readers as they develop vocabulary and build comprehension and reading stamina. Hooking students on a good book series is an effective way to increase engagement and the love of reading in all students.
