Our classroom studio is designed to run as a student-choice community where children can fully express themselves and explore new mediums. They are also encouraged to design, build, and reflect on their process. My focus is on teaching artistic behavior to help children realize their full potential. Our architecture/STEAM station in our choice-based art studio is in need of some building and engineering materials. It incorporates elements of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math for well-rounded exploration. I want to create an atmosphere conducive to learning that encourages innovation and critical thinking. Adding Keva building planks, Lego baseplates, and Brain Flakes will let my students dream, design, and build. PlayDoh will allow little hands to sculpt their ideas and promote fine motor skills. Adding new materials means increased student engagement. It is my primary goal for each child to feel successful and embrace the artist within. I would love to include the book, Iggy Peck Architect, that speaks to my little artists to provide inspiration for their own endeavors. In addition, our studio is windowless, so adding light filters will provide us with a calming shield against the harsh fluorescent lights and inspire creative spirit. We are hoping to introduce new stools for our high-top table that will be used for drawing, planning, and building 3-D sculptures. This allows for student choice in a flexible learning environment. Giving them opportunities to learn skills that will carry over into their lives outside the classroom, will give my precious students the best advantage in the world around them.
