Flexible seating in our classroom will give my middle schoolers the opportunity to feel in control of their learning as soon as they step into the classroom. It is challenging for the majority of my students to sit at a desk all class, but also not so simple for them to stand with a clipboard or sit on the floor. Many of my students are working on their organization and executive functioning skills. A standing desk will offer the comfort of movement as well as easy access to their materials. My small group, resource classroom also has many students who need to get their wiggles/energy out. Wobbles stools, bouncy bands, as well as standing desks give these students the opportunity to move around at their seats and still be able to participate in class. My students work better within the classroom for me and for themselves when they are given choices to make. Comfort and choice are so important for my students to get them in the mind frame for learning. I hope to be able to use this classroom furniture and materials to give my students more opportunities to make better choices within their learning environment.
