We have a lot of students who experience competition or cooperation in a lot of unsupervised and usually negative video game environments, so many of our students are not learning about the true benefits of honest, good-natured competition and teamwork in a peer environment. Since our students are not also typically interested in athletic events like typical schools, I wanted to give them a chance to nurture the positive feelings and behaviors in gaming using a form they wouldn't normally choose compared to the flash and shock of video games. Instead, I wanted to see them use their strong creative senses in developing tactics, strategy, and most importantly, problem-solving skills necessary in our modern world. I use games in my classroom instead of movie days whenever we have the rare break in our schedule, and the students have always enjoyed themselves immensely. Many of them are also interested in the story-creation and participation aspect of role-playing games as well.
