My students need equipment to learn about gardening. With the hydroponics equipment, students can learn about the food chain and grow different types of vegetables and fruits in an urban school district. “Project Based Learning is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills, by working for an extended period of time, to investigate and respond to an engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge.” (Buck Institute for Education) With this resource, teachers will be able to teach using project based teaching and inquiry based teaching. Classroom hydroponics gives students a chance to engage in critical thinking and problem solving, using a real world system with live plants. These classrooms foster collaboration, teamwork, and self management. With a hydroponics-based learning project, students have a focal point for a sustained process of asking questions, finding resources, and applying information.
