Many of the students that attend our school may never have a chance to have a pet. Their families may not have the time or resources. This will give my students the chance to have a pet, as well as learn the responsibility that comes along with it. The students will be responsible for maintaining the tank. They will learn attentiveness to detail as well as dependability through their care for the tank. The aquarium will teach students responsibility and will be a living resource for learning about ecosystem dynamics. There are many standards that the students will learn that align with the care of a fish tank. Plants, population growth, population interactions, as well as human impact, are all possible topics of discovery associated with the tank. I can already envision all of the discussions that will unfold because of the aquarium. The aquarium presents an opportunity for authentic science that can be used for many years to come.
