This year I have decided to fully implement flexible seating in my classroom. Last year I was able to provide a few alternative seating options and the results were immeasurable. The students who consistently utilized the alternative seats were more engaged in lessons, participated more and completed their work more consistently. Recent research shows that flexible seating options allow students the freedom of choice and ownership of the classroom. The carpet and seating options will allow my students to take more ownership over their learning and the culture of our classroom. The carpet will allow us to have a specified meeting place in order to check in with one another. Students will be able to select their own type of seat that will help improve their learning. I want my students to take control over their own educational experience.
