The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go. We just need your help in getting everything through our door! I have a big window in my classroom and the beanbag chairs and pillows will go under the window on the carpet. The wobble cushions will be in a place in the room that students can get them to sit on them at any point. so that they are comfortable and can be where they can learn best. Being comfortable is important and also improves attention and work ethic.Even as an adult, I'm not expected to be uncomfortable or to sit in a hard seat all day. I can't expect that from my students either.
I want my students to not only feel welcome, but also to succeed in my classroom. I believe having flexible seating is important in a classroom for students to be comfortable, have free choice, and be able to go above and beyond expectations. My students can never sit still. Ever. This is fine with me, and I when I get these supplies, I will be able to allow students the freedom of choice of seating in my classroom, rather than just sitting in a chair the whole time. There are some days the students need to sit at the small group table. This is where the wobble cushions come into play. Even when students can't sit around the room, they can still have freedom of choice by choosing to use the wobble cusions.
I am a first year teacher and funds are limited for me. Getting funds for flexible seating would help me to increase student productivity and student engagement.
