My students always work hard to master material. Basic math skills are essential for students to move forward and master harder material. One way to help students master basic math facts is to use drills and games. Games are also very useful in other subjects such as reading. Reading is paramount for students to succeed in school. I have worked hard to build our classroom library. One area that my library is lacking in is dictionaries. I would love for students to have more access to look up alternative words to use in their writing. Sadly, last year, we lost our globe to an unfortunate accident. We still use the globe; however, having one that is intact would be so much better. The students enjoy looking at it and researching new places.
Small, dry erase boards were the best addition to our class last year. The students used them in every subject. In math, we would practice math problems, individually and in groups. The students loved using them to practice cursive and spelling. I found them really helpful with my lower students and my ESL students. The only downfall I had with them was that the students struggled with providing their own markers. My goal, this year, is to have enough markers so that the students will have some for their boards and also, for small group activities.
