I am asking for MagnaTiles, Legos, Wooden Planks, Dominos, Play doh, and K'nex. I will use these materials will create STEM bins for morning work bins and early finisher bins. These will engage students in a hands on learning environment that allows them to learn through play. The different supplies will be put into separate bins that students will work with one at a time. They will have challenge cards that tell them what to build such as, a den for an animal, a bridge, a trap, etc. Then they can take it a step further, does it hold weight? Can you make it longer? Can you make it taller? Students need the ability to build and create using different materials to gain a better understanding of the world around them. When my students come into the classroom in the morning, I want to give them the opportunity to get their brains working in a fun and engaging way. STEM bins are the perfect way to wake up and start our day learning! They will also be used as Early Finisher bins so students keep learning even after their work is complete. For morning work, they will enter the classroom in the morning, hang their backpack, turn in any notes or homework and then they will be assigned to a STEM bin for the week. This assignment gives them structure to work within because they do not get to choose their favorite and they have to think outside the box. They will work in these bins until the bell rings for the day to start. Throughout the day, I anticipate there will be times that some students finish a little faster than others. These students will have the opportunity to choose their STEM bin to work in.
