I use novel studies to promote reading in my classroom. Too often teachers use dated titles that don't appeal to children, resulting in the loss of interest in reading. I integrate exciting state Social Studies content into my units to supplement the curriculum and infuse a lifelong love for reading. This method introduces integral components of literature while enforcing state standards. The books I have chosen are titles that my previous classes have used and loved. The children enjoy following along while I read aloud and we study new vocabulary from each novel.
