The Focus Room at North Park Elementary (K-2) is a new approach to handling disruptive behavior in the classroom setting. The purpose of the Focus Room is to provide a restorative process for students who are having difficulty following school expectations and/or rules. The Focus Room helps students recover so they are able to return to learning rather than be removed from it entirely. Our Focus Room provides a safe and neutral space to help children calm down and to practice, talk through, and implement emotional regulation skills. Here, students take steps towards better managing their feelings and work toward re-entering the classroom successfully. My room and calm down corner are in desperate need of new materials to support our students. If funded, I plan to create a space where our students will have the appropriate materials to facilitate their journey on becoming calm and relaxed learners! Your donation will assist kindergartners, first and second graders in their progress of becoming more socially and emotionally equipped to handle the stress of life. By giving, you are providing STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and sensory tools for all students to use. Students are allowed breaks throughout the day to utilize these tools. Some students enjoy building while others need somthing to fidget. Students will use these tools to block out distractions, engage the senses, promote regulation, improve focus, increase participation, and therefore enable every student to be available for learning. Please consider donating to our Focus Room!
