My students are motivated individuals that have various socioeconomic issues. They live in an area surrounded by gangs, drugs, and many other problems that accompany poverty stricken areas. They all participate in the free lunch program and more than half of them live in housing projects adjacent to the school. Aside from the disadvantages that life has dealt to them, the students demonstrate a strong desire to learn. They understand that education is the stepping stone to their future and ultimately provide the means for escape from the challenging world that they currently live in.
